Canna
The Canna Indica is the only member of the Cannaceae (Flowercane family). Its Dutch name is Indian Flowercane. The Canna is native to the tropical part of America. Over the years, the Canna has spread all over the world (South America, Africa, Southern Europe and Asia), wherever there is little or no frost in winter, you will find the Canna in large quantities. Its continuous flowering and decorative leaves make it a rewarding plant. In northern Europe, the Canna blooms from about April to October. The height of the Canna varies from 50 cm to as much as 1.50 m.

The Canna needs a lot of water, too wet is actually not possible because the Canna is a riparian plant. Preferably put this plant in a sheltered place, this prevents cracks in the leaves. Also provide enough sunlight and do not put it in the shade. The plant is suitable perennial in the garden, on the terrace and as a balcony plant. Fertilize once a month. The Canna cannot withstand severe frost and is therefore not completely winter hardy. However, the plant can be kept over winter if you keep it cool.
